Stopping at several view points along the way, you will be driven up to Srd hill (400 metres above the Old Town), location of the front line during the 1990s war and the site of the cable-car route which was destroyed in the conflict.  Srd hill's peak offers unbeatable views down into the city, the Zupa Dubrovacka valley, and across the Adriatic Sea to Lokrum and the Elaphite islands.  Our driver will then take you down to the Old Town for a guided walking tour of the city.

KONAVLE TOUR: CAVTAT & CILIPI

Cavtat and Konavle come together naturally as a combined tour.  Cavtat is a small seaside village just 30 minutes from Dubrovnik.  Its historic Old Town has an intriguing network of streets and cobbled alleys and its harbor and promenade are one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia.  Visitors are encouraged to wander around the small city and explore some of its side streets, shops, and many waterfront café bars.

After visiting Cavtat, the tour continues on to some of the most attractive villages in Konavle.  The Konavle area is situated in a valley skirted by the southern mountains of Herzegovina and Montenegro.  Its small population lives in some 32 villages scattered across this south-easterly tip of Croatia.

Konavle's folk traditions and way of life are still thriving in many of these settlements and we offer the chance to taste a true culinary tradition in one of the villages' authentic restaurants*.  The centerpiece of a lunch enjoyed here is a culinary treat: lamb slowly roasted under an “iron bell” covered in hot coals.

1-3 people:      140 EUR
4-7 people:      160 EUR

 FOLKLORE TOUR OF CILIPI

(available only on Sunday mornings from 1 May to 31 October)

Cilipi Folklore, Cilipi Tour, Dubrovnik Tours

The Folklore Tour of Cilipi is perfect for those wishing to experience a taste of Croatia's past. Located in the beautiful Konavle valley, the small village of Cilipi, badly damaged during the war, has now been restored to its original charming and picturesque state.

Here folklore is a way of life and this tour provides the opportunity to experience firsthand Cilipi's traditional customs and rich heritage.  The tour will begin with a welcome drink and a chance to see Cilipi's beautiful St Nicholas' Catholic Church (dating back to the fifteenth century), which dominates the main square.  Mass will be open to those who wish to attend, followed by a walk through the village with your guide.  Here you'll be able to wander around the stalls where locals offer homemade traditional goods and handicrafts that make wonderful souvenirs.

The real highlights of this tour are, of course, the traditional folk dancing performances which take place every Sunday in front of the church. Locals revel in dressing up in their traditional costumes and performing old songs and dances, which over time have come to define the town. You'll be enthralled by the dancers' energy and enthusiasm and get a real sense of the custom and culture that are at the heart of this area. You may even be invited to join in making this a truly memorable trip!

TRSTENO & STON TOUR

Ston, Croatia, Dubrovnik Tours

Combining cultural, botanical, and gastronomic discoveries, this tour of the historic town of Ston and the Trsteno Arboretum has something for everyone.

The tour begins with a leisurely stroll through Trsteno's renowned arboretum, which is over 500 years old and houses more than 300 species of exotic tree and plant life.  During the tour you'll have a chance to take in the magnificent scenery, including the summer manor, aqueduct, Baroque fountain, and the centerpiece of the arboretum, two ancient Oriental Plane trees, which are said to be the only specimens of their kind in Europe.

After an exploration of the botanical garden, the tour moves to Ston. This historic town is surrounded by a 5km long fortified wall (the second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China), originally erected in 1358 to protect the town.  Today, over 20 towers still remain and the wall represents an impressive link to the past.  Your guide will accompany you as you wander the streets of the charming old town, exploring the churches and varied architecture, before climbing a section of the wall to take in the panoramic views.

Your tour then moves on to Ston's ancient salt pans, which are still being worked today after over 2000 years.  Ston is also home to a world-famous oyster farm, which thanks to the unique ecological balance of the area, grows a variety of oysters that have long died out elsewhere.  The tour ends with a visit to one of the best restaurants in the area for a seafood lunch and, of course, a well-earned tasting of the exceptional oysters!

PELJESAC WINE TOUR

A quality wine is more than just a beverage. It is an almost magical sensation arising from a harmony of taste, bouquet and texture.  Indeed, a glass of wine should be savored with local specialties produced in the region surrounding the vineyards.  This authentic experience is offered on our Peljesac Wine Trail tour.

After a morning pick-up, you are taken by air-conditioned mini-bus to the Peljesac Peninsula - the most famous region in Croatia for the production of outstanding red wines.  En route, there will also be a short sightseeing stop at the town of Ston in order to admire its impressive medieval walls and ramparts.  Next on the schedule is the Marlajis household in the village of Potomlje. The village boasts the prettiest konoba (a kind of combined wine cellar/pub) in the area, a donkey farm, and the opportunity to experience a warm Dalmatian welcome from a local family.  This welcome takes the form of excellent homemade herb brandy, local food, and superb wine that cannot be bought in any of Dubrovnik's restaurants or shops.

Afterwards, the tour proceeds through the Dingac Vineyards to visit the Matusko family wine-cellar and enjoy a tasting of the world-famous Dingac and Postup wines.

On the way back to Dubrovnik, there is an important stop at Mali Ston, where you will dine in style at one of the best restaurants in Dalmatia, called Bota Sare, and sample the renowned oysters that are cultivated in the nearby bay.  This is a day filled with unforgettable memories, and of course lots of wine-tasting.
